Senyala is a simple hack put together over 2 days at iPhoneDevCamp3. This hack won Best iPhone App for Accessibility under the name iSign and we thought it would be a shame to simply let it die. At the core the idea is to port common ideas to gestures and then output those gestures as spoken word through the iPhone.
With the majority of the work done by Hernan Pelassini from Nextive Solutions we were able to complete the project just in time for demos.
The driving force behind this app is the overwhelming need to think of everyone when developing apps and as developers and designers it is important to think about accessibility in the things we do as to not disenfranchise anyone and make technology an enabling force and not a gating factor.
